COMMUNITY

Chef Phil DeWar is deeply committed to his community, actively promoting gainful employment and passionately combating food poverty through innovative culinary initiatives.

Phil’s relationship with food has continued to evolve and expand to feature food as function: showcasing how eating together sets the table for necessary and even difficult conversations in important places. Breaking bread creates a commonality between individuals, naturally disarming defences and softening our brow to one another. With food as a bridge of communication, Phil tells his story and inspires others to advocate for the change they wants to see in our communities and from the system.

CLD FOOD DELIVERY SERVICE

During COVID-19 through B Social Enterprises and under the guidance of manager Phil DeWar the CLD Food Delivery Service bulk grocery program was created. This program ensured the safety and wellbeing of the people we support and our staff by eliminating the need for them to go out to shop for groceries and personal items. Phil and a team of staff received grocery orders on a weekly basis from the 13 homes and SIL program. Groceries were delivered in bulk, and were sorted and parcelled for the homes. This ability to reduce our footprint into our community and into our homes has been instrumental in maintaining the health and safety of all of us here at Community Living Dufferin.

B SOCIAL DUFFERIN

B Social Dufferin was championed by Phil DeWar together with Community Living Dufferin, Family Transition Place, and Dufferin Child & Family Services to provide job training to those looking to enter or re-enter the workforce in an environment suited to their needs. For example, if an individual who due to physical or emotional restraints cannot work a traditional 8 hour shift, B Social can schedule to suit their needs. Likewise, if someone needs additional support in the workplace we can help with that!
